6 key factors provide characteristics for each band across expertise, accountability, scope, key relationships, operating environment, and judgement and independence.
Design principles provide guidance to inform executive structures and role design within a department or agency.
Distinguishing characteristics provides a summary of the key characteristics across senior executive bands 1–3.
Intra-band reporting means a reporting line of two roles within the same band.
Spans of control means the number of employees reporting directly (i.e. not through a manager or supervisor) to one individual.
System-wide in the context of the WLS refers to responsibility, risks or impacts that extend beyond a single team, business unit or agency and can apply across a portfolio, cross-agency, NSW public sector as a whole and in some cases nationally or internationally.
Work Level Standards are the classifying framework to determine the band for a senior executive role.
