A public expression of interest process has begun for the appointment of a new Racing NSW Chair and Member to replace outgoing Chairman Russell Balding AO.

Expressions of interest close Friday 12 January 2024 at 5pm.

Quick facts

Racing makes a significant contribution to the NSW economy.

The NSW Government commissioned a study into the size and scope of the racing industry in NSW in 2014.  The study found:

  • racing is a $3.3 billion industry in NSW
  • over 90,000 people directly participate in the racing industry as employees, participants or volunteers
  • approximately 1.8 million people attend race meetings annually
  • economic activity generated by the racing industry sustains more than 27,550 full time equivalent positions across NSW.

Our Minister

The Minister for Gaming and Racing, David Harris, is responsible for the legislation that governs the conduct of thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing in NSW.
