Project overview
Cowper St, Glebe NSW 2037
We are working to renew several social housing properties in inner Sydney, including in Glebe.
Our goal is to revitalise older estates to deliver new social housing. This helps us provide more homes that meet the needs of our contemporary tenants. Many of these tenants live alone or in small households.
The much-loved suburb of Glebe has a rich history and strong street character. We plan our social housing designs to benefit both our social housing residents and the wider Glebe community.
We’re delivering 75 new fit-for-purpose social homes in Sydney's inner west. These are at 17-31 Cowper Street and 2A-2D Wentworth Park Road.
The development will transform ageing social housing into:
- 2 towers with 8 storeys each
- a 3-storey terraced house building.
These buildings will include:
Type of home | Number of homes |
---|---|
Studio apartments | 3 |
1-bedroom apartments | 40 |
2-bedroom apartments | 27 |
3-bedroom terraces | 5 |
Type of home Studio apartments Number of homes 3 |
Type of home 1-bedroom apartments Number of homes 40 |
Type of home 2-bedroom apartments Number of homes 27 |
Type of home 3-bedroom terraces Number of homes 5 |
The development will feature green roofs, extensive landscaping, accessible apartments and footpath upgrades. It will be within walking distance of bus stops and Wentworth Park light rail.
Construction is underway. When the development is finished around August 2025, it will become home to around 130 social housing residents.
Sydney architectural firm Johnson Pilton Walker designed the project, which was inspired by Glebe’s rich history. It also included expert design advice from The King’s Trust Australia.
We are also partnering with Kane Constructions and Bridge Housing on the project.
During its lifecycle, the project is expected to create more than 250 jobs.
