Artificial Intelligence powers nsw.gov.au search engine
People will now be able to read important NSW Government information faster and more easily than ever thanks to new search summaries on nsw.gov.au generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The new feature will enhance the user experience by providing quick, short summaries in the form of a ‘quick answer’ of whatever NSW Government information they are seeking.
Users only need to provide a search term, and nsw.gov.au will generate a summary answering their query by drawing on the top three search results.
For example, a person searching for the term ‘school holidays’ will get a short summary with links to the beginning and end of school terms in NSW; someone searching ‘driver licence’ will get information on how to obtain a NSW Driver Licence along with links to fees and different licence classes.
Results are sourced only from trustworthy NSW Government information.
The summaries improve accessibility for all age groups and reading levels by using simple, clear language and will improve the experience for mobile phone users by saving people from scrolling through text on a smaller screen.
The new tool uses generative AI as part of the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment under the NSW Digital Inclusion Strategy to using the technology to deliver accessible, inclusive, secure and integrated digital services that every person in NSW can access and benefit from.
