Our role
The Department of Regional NSW is the central NSW Government agency for regional NSW. We collaborate with communities, businesses and government.
We’ve brought together the agencies responsible for:
- public works and regional development
- soil conservation and primary industries
- land use and natural resources
- regional infrastructure and program grants
- investment attraction.
Together, we work to:
- build stronger primary industries
- drive regional investment and economic development
- oversee productive and sustainable land use and natural resources
- deliver regional infrastructure and grant programs
- help strengthen social cohesion.
Home to about 40 per cent of the state’s population, regional NSW includes coastal, inland, rural, remote and metro regional areas.
To service these diverse regions, we have several offices and agencies.
We have a skilled and dedicated team working in 200 locations across regional NSW.
From Bega to Broken Hill, and from Byron Bay and beyond, the work we do ensures that our regional industries and resources are supported to grow into the future.

Secretary’s message

Regional NSW is an incredible place to live, work, raise a family and play.
The Department of Regional NSW exists to champion strategic investment and economic growth across regional NSW.
We are here to support regional NSW communities, businesses and economies by advocating for government that builds strong and resilient regional cities and towns.
From Bega to Broken Hill, and from Byron Bay and beyond, the work we do ensures that our regional industries and resources are supported to grow into the future.
We work with primary industries to create jobs and employment, and steward the use of our natural endowments: our lands, minerals, agriculture, mining and natural resources.
Our team also works to respond to ongoing global challenges and impacts upon regional NSW. When times get tough, the Department provides stimulus to help the regions recover and thrive into the future. Our 5,000+ staff live and work in communities across the state. I am proudly from the regions, and will continue to advocate alongside you for the regions.
I am pleased to have been appointed to the role of Secretary.
I look forward to working with our regional communities, businesses and industries, to ensure regional NSW continues to thrive for generations to come.
