NSW Fair Trading publishes its Strategy and Priorities Annual Report 2024-2025
NSW Fair Trading has released its annual Strategy and Priorities Annual Report for 2024-25, outlining the significant actions taken against its Strategy and Regulatory Priorities during the period.
The report outlines the establishment of new dedicated Rental and Property taskforces within NSW Fair Trading. Overall, NSW Fair Trading carried out more than 2,200 inspections, issued $1.58 million in fines, suspended 55 licenses and cancelled a further 29 during the period.
Sweeping rental reforms empowered tenants by ending ‘no grounds’ evictions, making it easier to keep pets in rentals and capping rent increases.
Underquoting was put under the microscope with real-time data used to identify, investigate and act on misconduct in the property sector. In addition 16,000 real estate agents were upskilled through mandatory TAFE NSW courses on pricing laws.
Nation-leading safety standards for lithium-ion batteries in e-bikes and e-scooters were introduced by NSW Fair Trading in response to rising fire risks.
NSW Fair Trading also engaged with communities across the state to empower and educate consumers, including information sessions on used cars, shopping rights and scam awareness in Nowra, Taree, Dubbo and Broken Hill.
Customer care was strengthened in 2024-25 with a new intake and triage system designed to prioritise serious harms and vulnerable consumers and handled more than 501,000 enquiries and almost 29,000 complaints.
