Get Kids Active

Making it easier, safer and more fun for kids to walk and ride to school.

What is the Get Kids Active program?

Active kids are happy, healthy and curious kids. Moving more and spending time outdoors helps growing kids to stay happy, healthy and switched on at school.

The Get Kids Active program is all about making it safer, easier and more fun for kids to walk and ride to and from school.

The school run can be an adventure. It's a chance to leave the car at home and enjoy a relaxing walk, with time to talk or go on a fun bike ride and burn up some energy!

Walking or riding together also helps parents and carers talk about road safety, reduce traffic congestion and is a greener choice for you, your family and the community.

The program includes:

  • Funding for infrastructure and street improvements around schools for walking and riding.
  • Improving walking and riding amenities at schools such as bike and scooter racks and repair stations on school grounds.
  • Encouraging walking and riding to and from school via education and behaviour change initiatives

Encouraging walking and riding to and from school

We’re funding an in-school walking and riding education program for children, as well as free bike skills courses to support behaviour change.

Connecting with Country

Country encompasses everything – the landscape, skies, waters, plants, animals, and the ancestral people who shaped the land we live on. For Aboriginal Peoples, Country is the source of identity, culture, language, and traditions.

By connecting with Country through the Get Kids Active program, we’re committed to supporting the safety, health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and communities in and around local schools. If we care for Country – it will care for us.
