What this provision does
This provision allows students extra time in an HSC exam. The extra time is expressed as an amount of extra time for each half hour of exam time. For example, 2.5 minutes of extra time for each half hour of exam time.
This provision is different from the Extra time to type or the Extra time to write provisions. See those pages for more information.
Who this provision is for
This provision is usually for students who require extra time to complete their HSC exams due to:
- reading disability
- hearing impairment with associated language delay
- slower processing (such as from medication or a brain injury)
- physical impediment (such as cerebral palsy)
- vision impairment.
How it works on the day
The extra time approved is added to the duration of the exam. For example, if a student has extra time at the rate of 2.5 minutes per half hour of exam time in a 2-hour exam, they will have 2 hours and 10 minutes to complete their exam. This doesn’t include reading time.
We also approve small group supervision for students who are approved for extra time. This avoids disruption by other students.
