How practical exams are marked
Practical exams are marked using 2 distinct marking methods: corporate marking and itinerant marking.
Corporate marking
Corporate marking is conducted at a venue managed by NESA. Projects are submitted either physically, or electronically for HSC markers to mark either in a corporate marking venue and/or online.
The following courses have a corporate marking component:
- Drama (Projects)
- English Extension 2
- Music 1 (Composition)
- Music 2, Music Extension (Composition and Musicology)
- Society and Culture
- Textiles and Design
- Visual Arts.
Applying to mark the HSC
Applications to mark the HSC are open in March for 2 weeks each year. Learn about marking the HSC and eligibility.
Itinerant marking
Itinerant marking is conducted in schools usually over a 2-week period. HSC markers travel to schools and mark performances and projects on site.
The following courses have an itinerant marking component:
- Dance
- Design and Technology
- Drama (Group and Individual Performances)
- Industrial Technology
- Music 1 (Performance and Musicology)
- Music 2, Music Extension (Performance)
- Visual Arts.
