The course content will be the same for all students, regardless of whether or not they sit the optional examination.
Grades, not marks, will be used to report student achievement on school-based assessment in the new English Studies and Mathematics Standard 1 courses.
Schools will use the Achievement Level Descriptions to award the A-E grade that best matches the level of achievement a student demonstrates in their school-based assessments. Schools will provide the grades to NESA via Schools Online. The grades will be reported on the HSC credential.
Schools will also provide an estimated examination mark for students enrolled to sit the optional examination. This estimated mark will only be used in the case of a successful Illness/Misadventure application.
Further advice will be provided in Term 3.
Note that there is no change to the processes for 2018: this year, school-based assessment in the HSC English Studies course will continue to be reported as a mark.
The Achievement Level Descriptions for HSC English Studies and Mathematics Standard 1 are now available on the NESA website.
