The new Stage 6 Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2 syllabuses are now available for download (as PDFs or Word documents) from the NESA website.
The new Stage 6 Mathematics Advanced and Mathematics Extension 1 syllabuses and school-based assessment requirements are to be implemented in all NSW schools from Term 1, 2019.
The new Stage 6 Mathematics Extension 2 syllabus and school-based assessment requirements are to be implemented in all NSW schools from Term 4, 2019.
New Stage 6 Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2 courses will be examined for the first time for the HSC in 2020.
Key features of the new syllabuses include:
- A focus on ‘depth’ of content studied rather than ‘breadth’ of topics covered
- A stronger focus on higher-order critical thinking and problem solving applied to real-world problems
- The inclusion of Statistics in Mathematics Advanced and Mathematics Extension 1
- The inclusion of Vectors in Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2
- Increased use and application of digital technologies.
