When to apply
Re-accreditation after ceasing is a structured pathway to support teachers to re-enter the teaching profession.
Use this option if your Provisional or Conditional accreditation ceased due to you not achieving Proficient Teacher accreditation before your timeframe ended.
If you were conditionally accredited, you will need to have completed an approved initial teacher education program before you can apply.
If re-accredited, you may be given a further 2 years to achieve Proficient Teacher accreditation.
Prepare your application
To prepare for submitting your application, you can:
- read the Re-accreditation after ceasing application form (PDF 269.57KB)
- get your supporting documents together
- get a Working with Children Check (WWCC) if you do not have a current one.
Determine your re-accreditation pathway
Your employment situation will determine the re-accreditation pathway that applies to you.
You may be able to finalise your accreditation at Proficient Teacher if you can provide evidence of the following in your application:
- ongoing employment that began before the date your accreditation was ceased, or
- written support from a principal or service director agreeing to a new employment period, that starts within 3 months of the date your accreditation ceased.
In all other cases, you need to approach schools or services to seek support for your application. You need written confirmation of potential employment in a school or service before you can apply for re-accreditation after ceasing.
If your accreditation has ceased more than once, email us for advice on supporting documentation at reaccreditation@nesa.nsw.edu.au.
Submit your application with supporting documentation
Complete the Re-accreditation after ceasing application form (PDF 269.57KB).
Provide supporting documentation including:
- current WWCC clearance number
- copies of 3 types of identification
- copies of your university transcripts and awards for completed teaching qualifications
- evidence of current or potential employment as a teacher, if available
- name change certificate, if applicable
- an overseas criminal history check if you resided overseas for 12 consecutive months or more in the past 5 years.
Submit your application and all supporting documents to NESA at reaccreditation@nesa.nsw.edu.au
You will receive an email prompt to complete 3 tasks in your NESA online account (eTAMS).
The tasks allow the nationally coordinated criminal history check to begin:
- Complete the declaration task.
- Consent to a nationally coordinated criminal history check.
- Provide identity link verification by uploading a photo of yourself holding your photo ID.
Once completed, you receive an invoice to pay the $100 re-accreditation application fee.
To progress your application, you need to pay the fee and any other outstanding accreditation fees.
Await our re-accreditation decision
You receive an email from us once we receive your application.
We may request more information from your current or previous employers.
We will re-accredit you and notify you of the decision if you have provided evidence of:
- ongoing employment
- an offer of employment beginning within 3 months of your accreditation ceasing.
If you are unable to provide evidence of the above, our re-accreditation panel will assess your application. We then consider the panel’s recommendation when making a re-accreditation decision.
You have 2 years from the date you are re-accredited to complete all requirements for accreditation at Proficient Teacher.
We will notify you of any conditions placed on your re-accreditation.
