About the NSW Spatial Digital Twin Policy Framework
To protect the integrity of the NSW Spatial Digital Twin (SDT), we have clear rules about how users should add new spatial information to it. The mandatory policy framework requires NSW Government agencies to share their data in the most efficient and usable way.
We review the framework every 2 years and update it where there are substantive changes to legislation or the operating environment.
Rules you must follow to add data to the SDT
To ensure that all data in the SDT remains authoritative:
- NSW Government agencies should be the primary contributors of data to the SDT
- agencies may only contribute spatial data for which they are the official custodians.
To add data to the SDT, all agencies must comply with the following rules and policies.
- To understand your obligations, including the technical requirements, read the NSW Spatial Digital Twin Policy.
- To contribute 3D models of the built environment, read the NSW Spatial Digital Twin Integration Guideline for 3D Infrastructure Models.
- To add data, read the NSW Spatial Digital Twin Contributor Guideline.
- To evaluate your data as ‘open’ or ‘shared’ before publishing or hosting on the SDT, read the NSW Spatial Digital Twin Open Data Guideline. We may review the data and metadata you submit to ensure inappropriate data is not unintentionally published.

How we govern spatial data
The NSW Government has clear leadership structures and processes in place to manage and coordinate spatial data across government.
The NSW Data Leadership Group (NDLG), made up of Chief Data Officers from every portfolio, drives cross-sector collaboration around government data.
