The new 8-bed unit will provide welcoming, comfortable, safe and supportive facilities, as well as bring a much-needed expansion of services to the area.
Project information
The project will be delivered in conjunction with the separately funded upgrade to the Broken Hill Emergency Department as part of the Broken Hill Hospital Redevelopment.
Benefits
The project will:
- Offer patients, their families, carers and staff in the remote region access to the best mental healthcare available.
- Provide modern and contemporary therapeutic spaces for people with mental health needs, their families, carers and staff.
- Provide patients, families and carers a modern facility to meet the health needs of the community now, and into the future.
Scope
The project includes:
- 8 single rooms with dedicated ensuite bathrooms
- a large internal communal lounge and dining area
- a sensory modulation room, multi-activity space and exercise room
- landscaped areas that have been inspired by Aboriginal history, culture and connection to the land to contribute to a therapeutic and culturally safe environment for consumers, visitors and staff
- a dedicated entry away from the main hospital with a drop off/pick up area.
The new unit is located adjacent to other existing community mental health related services.
