Forbes Hospital is part of the Lachlan Health Service, which also includes Parkes Hospital. It has an emergency department and inpatient beds, as well as community health services.

Architecturally, Forbes is a mix of heritage building and contemporary public art, creating an eclectic streetscape that surround the centrepiece of the town, Lake Forbes.

There is always something to do with key events including Grazing down the Lachlan, Taste On Templar, Frost and Fire celebrating the winter solstice, horse racing, including picnic races in surrounding villages. At any time of year you can follow ‘Sculptures down the Lachlan’ trail towards Condobolin and nature pursuits include bird watching, fishing and swimming in the river.
