Information for approved providers of CPD to property professionals
Only approved providers may deliver compulsory learning continuing professional development (CPD) topics to property professionals in NSW. Learn who can become a provider and the process for approval.
Key information for CPD providers
- The Strata and Property Services Commissioner (the Commissioner) approves CPD providers.
- Approved providers can be:
- industry associations
- major brands and franchisors
- other entities approved by the Commissioner.
- We publish the list of currently approved providers on this website.
- All approved providers must comply with the conditions of approval.
CPD is aimed at ensuring licence and certificate holders continually update their skills and are aware of changes to the law that affect them.
Details on how CPD operates are outlined in the CPD requirements.
Licence and certificate holders must complete their CPD obligations annually with the CPD year commencing on 1 July each year.
CPD requirements for class 1 and class 2 agents includes the completion of compulsory learning topics in an interactive environment. This training can only be delivered by a training provider approved by the Strata and Property Services Commissioner. Approved providers must comply with the conditions of approval.

Who can become an approved provider
Industry associations
An organisation which the Commissioner determines:
- is membership based, and
- has a primary and foundational goal to promote, develop and support high standards of agency practice.
Major brands and franchisors
Holders of a company licence who are:
- major brands
- franchisors which include businesses with at least 40 offices across Australia that operate either:
- under a formal franchise agreement with each office, or
- with subsidiaries under a parent company structure.
Entities approved by the Commissioner
Entities seeking approval from the Commissioner to deliver compulsory topics must show:
- a strong property services subject matter delivery history
- a record of training excellence in property services
- a commitment to improving the capabilities of licence holders to achieve compliance with:
- their responsibilities under the Act
- the objectives of compulsory CPD
- a framework to deliver compulsory CPD requirements to a high standard showing:
- how they will deliver training
- the qualifications and expertise of individual employees relevant to the property sector
- how the training will be interactive
- an assessment strategy that ensures achievement and demonstration of learning outcomes
- how the learning is accessible to industry participants.
The approval process to provide CPD to property professionals
Complete the application form and provide supporting documents
A training provider seeking approval must:
- complete the application form
- provide information and evidence to support their claim.
Application assessment and recommendation to the Commissioner
NSW Fair Trading will assess each application and make a recommendation to the Commissioner.
Provide more information if requested
We may request more information from the applicant. If it is not provided within 14 days, or the timeframe agreed between NSW Fair Trading and the applicant, we will refuse the application.
Notification of outcome within 28 days
NSW Fair Trading will notify applicants in writing of the assessment outcome within 28 working days of receiving the completed application and all required supporting information.
If refused, reasons provided in writing
If an application is refused, NSW Fair Trading will provide written reasons for the refusal.
Approval granted for up to 3 CPD years
Approval is granted for a period of up to 3 CPD years, unless otherwise specified by the Commissioner.
Comply with conditions of approval
All approved providers must comply with the conditions of approval.
Publication of approved provider details
We will publish the contact details of the approved provider on this page.
Submit the annual notification form each year
All approved providers must submit the annual notification form each CPD year to notify which compulsory CPD topics they will be delivering.
Determining compulsory learning topics
Compulsory learning topics are determined annually by the Commissioner. The topics address compliance and consumer protection matters identified by the Commissioner and industry representatives.
NSW Fair Trading develops for each compulsory topic:
- a course outline
- desired learning outcomes
- assessment requirements.
Compulsory topic outlines will be available here before the start of the next CPD year.

- Privacy law reforms
- Mitigating risk and managing psychosocial hazards in the workplace
- Anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing
- Residential tenancy reforms (must be delivered for a minimum of 3 hours)
Note: Residential tenancy reforms courses must only be delivered where course content and assessment material has been reviewed by NSW Fair Trading. Course content has been approved for the following providers:

New mandatory commissions, disclosures and fiduciary duty 2025 – 2026 CPD course
A new mandatory commissions, disclosures and fiduciary duty course is being developed by NSW Fair Trading. The mandatory course forms part of the CPD requirements for all licensed agents in strata management.
More information will be provided when the course is available for enrolment.
