CMS components guide

This guide provides an overview of the components that are available in the CMS (content management system) and guidelines on how and when to use them.

CMS component names are changing and being reordered

From Wednesday 1 May components will be updated and some will be renamed. They'll also be listed within categories, rather than alphabetical order. These categories will help you understand the use and purpose of the components.

These changes will make it easier for you to find and understand components.

Page types

Choose a page template to create your web page:

  • Landing page and standard page templates are used for the majority of content on nsw.gov.au.
  • Resource pages are used for PDF documents, either to move the content onto the web page or to attach a PDF file to the web page.
  • News article pages can be created when a news landing page has already been created for the article to be listed on.

Essential page elements

Build your page with these essential elements. All page types must include headings and you'll need to use sections and blocks to build out the content on your page.

Landing pages must have the Hero heading and navigational elements added, all other page templates must have a Block / WYSIWYG or Content block added.

Media

Add media files to your page, including images, PDFs and videos. Media files can contribute to the SEO of your content. Follow the govenance and file naming conventions to create your file and then follow the instructions to upload it to the CMS.

Consider converting document files to web pages with the resource template. If documents are uploaded, they need to meet accessibility standards.
