Principle 5: Introduce and report on metrics and identify opportunities for supporting small business policy, regulatory and economic settings
Action 1: Develop and apply performance metrics to NSW Government agencies
Through this report, the NSW Government has delivered the state’s first coordinated process to report and monitor whole-of-government performance and impacts on small businesses. This delivers a clearer picture of how NSW Government Agencies engage with and support small businesses, and ensures government is accountable and transparent in how we deliver on the Charter. This will also increase visibility of key programs and measures that support small business, alongside identifying areas for greater collaboration with the sector or potential reform.
This report also includes a dashboard of key metrics, which provides a summary of the NSW small business sector, and some key measures under each Charter Principle. The dashboard shows the overall strength of the sector in the number of small businesses, and figures for employment, and sales and service income, as well as Government supports and initiatives to help small businesses start, grow and thrive.
This is the first Charter Progress Report, and so the metrics provide an initial baseline. Further work is planned to examine how we can build on and add to these metrics, to ensure we have key measures for tracking the state of the sector, the overall supports provided and their effectiveness in supporting small business.
