Westmead Breast Cancer Institute (BCI) is a leading organisation in Australia for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
We bring together screening, treatment and clinical care to provide coordinated, continuous care. Our multidisciplinary teams work together to support patients at every stage of their journey.
Our work is delivered through four core programs:
- screening
- clinical care
- research
- education
These programs embody our vision of supporting people with breast cancer today and every day.

What we do
We ensure comprehensive and coordinated clinical care for people with breast cancer and benign breast conditions. Our multidisciplinary team combines a wealth of experience and specialised expertise to support patient health. Learn more about clinical care.
We deliver the BreastScreen NSW program in Western Sydney. This program offers free breast screen for women aged 50 to 74, aiming to save lives through early detection of breast cancer. Learn more about breast screening.
We lead and support collaborative research with national and international partners, focusing on risk assessment, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and improving outcomes through evidence-based practice. Learn more about our research.
We provide clear information for patients and health professionals through fact sheets and resources. We also offer professional development through education programs such as fellowships and the Breast Care Nurse Practicum. Learn more about our education programs.
