Rita Colella, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Sexual Health FWLHD, said those eligible should book online or call ahead for an appointment to help protect themselves and their communities.
“Monkeypox vaccine eligibility has recently been expanded to include all sexually active gay and bisexual men (cis and trans), as well as all people who have sex with these men and sex workers.
“We’re encouraging as many eligible people as possible to book in for vaccination to protect themselves, their loved ones and their community from the virus,” Ms Colella said.
“Eligible people can make an appointment through the new online booking system at https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/book-a-monkeypox-vaccineor can call the Broken Hill Community Health Centre on 08 8080 1100 to speak to a nurse.”
People across the region and within the Local Health District who require access to the vaccine can also call this number to book an appointment.
“Two doses of the vaccine are required for maximum protection, given at least 28 days apart. The vaccine is most effective two weeks after the second dose and gives around 80 per cent protection against monkeypox.”
Eligible people, and anyone who has received their first dose four or more weeks ago but is waiting on their second dose, can make an appointment using the online booking system.
