Take a virtual tour of the Grafton Base Hospital Redevelopment
A virtual fly-through animation has been released showcasing the future Grafton Base Hospital and giving the community its first look at the design of the new facility.
The NSW Government is investing $263.8 million in the project which will deliver a new three-storey acute services building featuring a modern and expanded range of health services, including:
- a new and expanded Emergency Department and Emergency Short Stay
- a new medical imaging department, including an MRI suite
- an inpatient unit
- an expanded day surgery and operating suite with two additional theatres
- future space to relocate maternity services
- zones designed for potential future development.
The new inpatient building will connect seamlessly to the existing hospital via a new street at the main public entrance. A new lobby will further improve navigation and access.

The redevelopment will also deliver significant improvements to access and parking, including a new turning circle drop-off zone, a new road providing direct ambulance access to the Emergency Department, and additional car parking for patients, visitors and staff.
As part of the broader redevelopment, refurbishment of two administration blocks within the old Grafton Gaol is currently under way, which will provide contemporary office and training facilities for hospital staff.
The detailed design for the redevelopment has been shaped by extensive consultation with staff, stakeholders and the community to ensure the new facilities meet clinical priorities and the needs of local communities.
To coincide with the release of the new animation, community information sessions are being held in the coming weeks to meet the project team, provide feedback and learn more about the project.
The information sessions are at Grafton Shoppingworld on:
- Monday, 29 September, 3pm-5pm
- Tuesday, 30 September, 9am-11am
In the coming weeks, the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) planning documents will be placed on public exhibition, providing the community with a further opportunity to view and provide feedback.
Construction timeframes will be confirmed once planning is finalised and a builder is engaged.
