Regional advisory groups
Regional advisory groups provide strategic advice to our local Boards around matters relating to our customers and stakeholders, ensuring we meet the needs of our communities and are a legislative requirement under the Local Land Services Act 2013.
In the Western region of Local Land Services, we seek input and advice from four advisory groups to help shape our strategic direction. These issue specific groups incorporate members with varying backgrounds from throughout the Western region who all bring different skills, expertise, experiences and qualities to their roles.
The Western Aboriginal Community Advisory Group (ACAG) is designed to assist the Western Local Board and management on the direction of the organisation and management of programs. Their purpose is to:
- provide consultation for Local Land Services projects and cultural heritage matters
- provide input into the development of local strategic plans
- seek input from Aboriginal communities during project planning and development phases
- seek input from Aboriginal communities on the range of services to be provided
- provide a forum for focused and sustained discussion with Aboriginal communities by linking Western Local Land Services to these communities
- provide a connection between the Western Local Board and Aboriginal communities on the issues that need to be addressed by Western Local Land Services
- seek input about the issues important to Aboriginal communities in relation to Local Land Services
- advise the Western Local Board on strategic and operational issues of relevance to the
implementation of the Western Local Land Services Aboriginal Participation Plan - provide a forum to foster and nurture partnerships between Western Local Land Services and the wider communities.
The Kangaroo Management Taskforce (KMT) is working to improve kangaroo management to achieve healthy and sustainable landscapes, healthy and sustainable kangaroo populations and sustainable agricultural production.
Kangaroos here refer to the three overabundant species that are harvested in Western NSW. These include:
- Red Kangaroo (Osphranter rufus)
- Eastern Grey (Macropus giganteus)
- Western Grey (Macropus fuliginosus).
The KMT is responsible for providing advice to the Western Local Board on:
- opportunities for effective kangaroo management
- innovative and evidence-based approaches to improving and maintaining best practice kangaroo management
- information gaps and research needs as may be relevant to improving kangaroo management like participating in research programs
- collating and distributing relevant existing information and research on kangaroo management
- programs and funding proposals for research and development when appropriate.
The main purpose of the Western Regional Pest Animal Committee (RPAC) is to:
- provide a forum for the discussion of regional pest animal management issues to encourage cross tenure, coordinated approaches to pest animal management.
- oversee implementation of Western Regional Strategic Pest Animal Management Plan
2024-2028 designed to support a coordinated, tenure neutral and inclusive approach to pest animal management - consult relevant stakeholders on regional priority pest animal management issues as
required.
The purpose of the Western Regional Weeds Committee (RWC) is to provide ‘tenure neutral’ strategic planning and coordination of weed management activities at the regional level. It will do this by:
- developing, updating, and coordinating the delivery of the Western Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan (PDF 2.36MB) (Western RSWMP), inclusive of all land tenures and major stakeholders in the region
- providing advice to the Western Local Land Services Board regarding the delivery of the weed biosecurity actions of stakeholders including Local Control Authorities operating in the Western Local Land Services region, consistent with the Western Local Land Services Local Strategic Plan
- providing a forum for the community and stakeholders to have input into decision-making on weed management priorities and programs in the Western region
- developing communication, education and awareness programs based on local or regional priority weeds and issues
- supporting the implementation of the weed components and underlining principles of the NSW Biosecurity Strategy 2022-2030, NSW Biosecurity Act 2015, and the NSW Invasive Species Plan 2023-2028.
