Location
Queanbeyan is a city in the south-eastern region of NSW. It is located on the Queanbeyan River less than 15 km from Canberra. Considered a city with a country atmosphere, it has the identity of a commuter belt town for the Australian capital while also being a service centre for the surrounding agricultural and pastoral industries.
Getting there
Free timed parking is available in the hospital carpark. Untimed parking is available in surrounding streets.
Our Inpatient Unit and Maternity Units are located on Level 1. Please take the lifts from the Ground Floor to Level 1. When exiting the lift, turn right, then left to reach the unit.

Respect and safety
Queanbeyan Hospital is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for patients, visitors and staff.
We understand that hospital visits can be stressful. However, aggressive, abusive or threatening behaviour is not acceptable and may result in action to protect the safety of others.
What to bring
- Please bring comfortable clothing for your stay.
- Bring any mobility aids you use, such as walking frames or sticks.
- Bring your regular medicines if you have them.
- Gifts and flowers for patients are welcome.
What not to bring
- Please do not bring loud electronic devices.
- Latex balloons are not allowed.
- Do not bring candles or other flammable items.
- Please avoid bringing valuables, such as cash or jewellery.
Support for Aboriginal patients
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients can access support from an Aboriginal Health Worker during their stay. Please let your nurse or another staff member know if you would like this support.
Interpreters
If you need an interpreter, we can arrange this for you at no cost. Please tell your nurse or another staff member.
Food and refreshments
Complimentary tea and coffee are available for inpatients and visitors in the patient lounge on Level 1.
You can buy food and drinks from the Auxiliary Kiosk on the Ground Floor, near the lifts. The kiosk is open weekdays 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Vending machines are also available in the Emergency Department waiting area.
Pets and animals
Registered assistance animals are allowed. Please speak with staff to arrange this with hospital management.
Internet access
Free patient & guest Wi-Fi is available across Queanbeyan Hospital. Look for “_NSW_Health_Guest_WiFi_SLHD” and follow the prompts. Both a free and premium service are available. If you experience difficulties accessing the network, please contact the helpdesk on 1300 552 442.
Visitors
Please wash and/or sanitise hands before and after visiting using the hand hygiene stations provided. Do not visit if you feel unwell or have cold, flu or respiratory symptoms. Visitors who appear unwell may be asked to leave to protect patients and staff.
Visiting hours
Queanbeyan Hospital does not have set visiting hours. Please be mindful that patients may need rest or treatment.
Patient discharge time is 10:00 am. Please be mindful of this time so staff can prepare patients for discharge.
Visitor numbers
If the person you are visiting is in a shared room, space may be limited. Please keep visitor numbers low so all patients are comfortable.
For single rooms, up to four visitors at a time is recommended. If more visitors are needed, please speak with the Nurse Unit Manager.
The Close Observation Unit (COU) is a shared area for patients who need a higher level of care. In this area, only two visitors at a time are allowed to support safe care for all patients.
Patient transfers and direct admissions
Southern's District Patient Flow Unit coordinates patient movements between hospitals in Southern NSW Local Health District, and to or from hospitals outside our district.
The unit manages transfers, coordinates conference calls between referring and accepting clinicians, confirms bed availability, and books patient transport so care is timely and safe.
