Elective surgery is when you plan a procedure, usually starting with your GP referring you to a surgeon.
You can have surgery in locations such as Batemans Bay, Cooma, Moruya, Goulburn, Queanbeyan, and South East Regional Hospital - Bega. Read our Elective Surgery Guide (PDF 4.18MB), then discuss the location of your surgery with your doctor, who will then refer you to the right surgeon.

Aboriginal Health support for your surgery
Our Aboriginal Health team can offer support and advocacy for you and your family when you come to hospital for surgery (PDF 1.29MB).
Coming to hospital for surgery or a procedure can be a difficult time. Our Aboriginal Health team are available to have a yarn if you need help. We can help you before your admission, while you are in hospital, or when you head home.
We are able to support you, and your family or carer with your surgery journey by:
- talking with your surgical team about your care. offering emotional, social and cultural support to you and your family
- providing you and your family with information about the hospital journey and other support services
- helping you with your admission paperwork. assisting with referrals when you are ready to go home
- arranging family meetings with your surgical team.
To access this support contact our Central Intake service team. You can also leave your details at any service desk in the hospital, or request a hospital staff member contact us on your behalf.
