Finishing works will continue onsite and include demolishing the old hospital buildings, and constructing the new staff accommodation units, car parking areas, and landscaping outdoor spaces.
When complete the landscaping will include walking paths, outdoor visiting areas, and passive and active recreation spaces.
Many landscaping features of the new health facility have been designed to provide therapeutic benefits for patients and visitors.
Over the coming months the community will see these areas, which include an Aboriginal garden, a resident’s garden, courtyards and the delivery of an arts and heritage program start to take shape.
Once complete the Braidwood MPS Redevelopment will include:
- health services co-located under one roof
- in-patient rooms designed according to latest models of care
- purpose built facility delivering therapeutic benefits for patients and visitors
- 37 residential aged care beds with activity rooms, lounge and dining facilities, including acute care
- Emergency Department with dedicated ambulance entry
- X-ray services
- staff accommodation in a safe and secure purpose-built facility
- staff and visitor car parking on-site.
Solar electricity panels have been installed on the new Braidwood MPS to assist energy-efficiency and reduce running costs.
There is also 20,000 litres of rainwater storage for reuse as part of the landscaping irrigation system on site.
The finishing works remain on track for completion in early 2021.
The Braidwood MPS is being delivered as part of the Governments $304 million Multipurpose Service (MPS) program to deliver improved access to health and aged care services in rural and remote communities.
