How Spatial Services strengthens emergency response across NSW
Recognised in the NSW State Emergency Management Plan as a Supporting Agency, Spatial Services helps emergency services understand risk, coordinate operations and make informed decisions.
Through the Emergency Information Coordination Unit (EICU), the Emergency Management Digital Twin (formerly SIMS) and the Emergency Services Spatial Information Library (ESSIL), we provide authoritative spatial data, platforms and mapping services that enable prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Foundation Spatial Data Framework (FSDF)
- The FSDF is part of a national framework. It is a set of core spatial data sets.
- The FSDF has about 300 datasets grouped into 10 themes and 2 additional categories. Learn more.
- The FSDF is Core State Digital Asset. Agencies must use the spatial datasets comprising the FSDF.
- It makes spatial data easy to find, use and share and ensures everyone has access to the same core foundation data.
- The datasets are the standard for NSW and support preparedness, response and coordination during emergencies.
- The Spatial Collaboration Portal is the primary way to access NSW FSDF data.
- You don't need a login to view FSDF data in the Spatial Collaboration Portal.
- The FSDF is available via the Emergency Services Spatial Information Library (ESSIL). To find out more, see Emergency Information Coordination Unit (EICU).
Spatial Collaboration Portal
Use the Spatial Collaboration Portal (SCP) to access FSDF data and search other local, state and federal datasets.
Emergency Services can use the portal to upload, manage and share their own spatial data, and create maps and visualisations for planning and collaboration.
There are three tiers of user access.
- View open data without registering an account.
- Become a registered user to access groups, secured data and saved content.
- Become a data custodian by contacting Spatial Services to upload and share your data.
