Initially identified in the project’s Environmental Impact Statement to be closed completely for up to three years, Transport for NSW and its contractor John Holland have worked hard to ensure access is maintained on weekends during construction following feedback from the community. This decision also underpins John Holland's commitment to community access and recreational activities while advancing major infrastructure projects.
Closure of Ermington Boat Ramp mid-week
Ermington Boat Ramp will temporarily close Monday to Friday from Tuesday, 8 April 2025 with weekend access maintained for boat users and enthusiasts. Weekend access will be from 8:00pm Friday to 5:00am Monday, as well as public holidays from 8:00pm the day prior and ending 5:00am the following day.
In a move to further support the boating community during the school holiday period, the Ermington Boat Ramp will be open with limited parking from 8:00pm Thursday, 17 April to 5:00am Monday, 28 April.
In certain instances where safety-critical activities require, the Ermington Boat Ramp and sections of the Parramatta River may need to be closed during the weekend. When these activities are scheduled, John Holland will ensure advance notice is provided to the public. Additionally, transport arrangements will be organised to accommodate the needs of ferry passengers.
Boat users are encouraged to view the NSW boat ramp map for details of alternate boat ramps to use.
Closure of Ermington Boat Ramp car park
The Ermington Boat Ramp car park and amenities will temporarily close from Tuesday, 29 April until the completion of the project. During this time, alternative parking will be available at 112 Wharf Road, Melrose Park, with the same operating hours as the boat ramp to ensure continuity for the boating community.
The Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 Enabling Works project will deliver a new public and active transport bridge, providing a much-needed link between the growing communities of Melrose Park and Wentworth Point. The bridge will feature an innovative, long-span cast in situ balanced cantilever design. This design has been carefully selected to include just two piers in the river, greatly reducing the environmental footprint and ensuring minimal disruption to waterway users.
