Parramatta Light Rail news

Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 has been given the green light to begin construction of the main works, a project which will eventually connect Sydney's second CBD with Sydney Olympic Park.

Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1, designed in collaboration with Context Landscape Architecture, HASSELL Studio has been honoured with a Gold Winner accolade at the 2025 Australian Good Design Awards. 

The Parramatta River will undergo temporary closures this October as John Holland undertakes essential works as part of the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 Enabling Works project. The critical works will involve Ausgrid relocating the 132kV electrical wires spanning the river ahead of construction of the new public and active transport bridge connecting Wentworth Point to Melrose Park. This bridge will significantly enhance Sydney’s future transport infrastructure. 

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has advised its intention to dispose of three parcels of land in North Parramatta, following the completion of the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 project.

Transport for NSW’s Parramatta Light Rail (PLR) Stage 1 has been awarded the Sustainability Excellence Award at the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) Rail Industry Awards 2025, celebrating its pioneering contributions to sustainable transport infrastructure and urban revitalisation. 

Utility works and the establishment of construction zones are underway for the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 Enabling Works. Sustainability is core to how the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 Enabling Works is being designed and built. 

Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 Enabling Works has commenced early works, including site establishment and investigation activities, at Wentworth Point and Melrose Park, setting the stage for major construction to begin later this year.  In April, the boating community will see some changes to Ermington Boat Ramp and car park to enable construction activities.

John Holland is inviting the public to have their say about the Enabling Works sustainability objectives and targets, as well as certain design aspects.
