Carbon fibre composite is a durable, strong, and lightweight material widely used in aerospace applications. Its use is expanding into performance vehicles, electric cars, boats, hybrid buses, and drone technology.
This micro-credential introduces learners to manual composite layup techniques through a hands-on, end-to-end practical project.
What you will learn
By completing this micro-credential, you will:
- understand the differences between dry and pre-impregnated materials, including preparation and storage requirements
- apply release agents to tools or moulds and extract completed parts
- hand form multiple layers of fabric onto moulds, incorporating internal and external curvatures, lap joints, and butt joins
- select and use consumables for compaction and curing of composites
- apply a compaction and final bag to the layout and mould and understand the curing process.
