Submit initial teacher education data
Accredited NSW initial teacher education (ITE) providers must submit student progression data and program-level data each year. Learn what information to provide, who to include and when submissions are due.
Before you begin
ITE student progression data
Submit information about students progressing through or completing accredited ITE programs.
Collection period: Semester 1 and Semester 2
ITE program-level data
Submit information about the performance and impact of accredited ITE programs.
Template issued: Late March each year
Due: 30 June each year
Student progression data
ITE student-level progression data helps monitor student progression through accredited programs and supports changes to conditional accreditation requirements.
This data helps NESA and ITE providers to:
- support conditionally accredited teachers to progress towards completing their ITE qualification
- identify potential progression risks earlier
- verify qualifications and teaching areas
- improve the reliability and integrity of accreditation data
- reduce duplicate requests for information
- support timely accreditation decisions and entry into the teaching workforce.
This collection may include information about a student's:
- student identification
- enrolment information
- progression information
- completion information
- accreditation-related requirements
- teaching area information.
Include students who are studying or have recently completed an accredited ITE program:
- undergraduate students enrolled in their second year or later
- postgraduate students who are currently enrolled
- students who completed an accredited ITE qualification within the previous 12 months.
The collection replaces the previous final year student data collection, reducing duplicate reporting for providers.
Undergraduate students
For reporting purposes, undergraduate students are considered in scope if they are in their second year of enrolment or higher.
Determine this using the course commencement date rather than study load, credit points or EFTSL calculations.
For example, students who commenced their ITE degree in the previous calendar year (or earlier) should be included.
NESA collects this data in Semester 1 and Semester 2 each year.
Program-level data
Program-level data provides information about the overall performance and impact of accredited ITE programs.
This data helps NESA:
- monitor the quality and effectiveness of accredited ITE programs
- identify potential issues early and work with providers to address them
- assess program outcomes throughout an accreditation period
- support evidence requirements for Program Standard 5.3 under the revised National Standards and Procedures
- inform future accreditation decisions, including Stage 2 accreditation.
Provide information about:
- program commencements
- subject and teaching area information
- professional experience (PEX) data
- teacher performance assessment (TPA) information
- graduate outcomes
- program impact measures
This information supports accreditation requirements under the Standards and Procedures and helps demonstrate program outcomes during and after the accreditation period.
Include date about:
- domestic students
- international students
- teach-out students enrolled in accredited programs during the reporting period.
Depending on the type of program, you may also need to provide:
- selection data
- impact data
- primary program data
- secondary program data.
If a program does not apply
Only complete the tabs and fields that apply to your accredited programs. Leave fields blank where they are not relevant to your reporting requirements.
NESA issues the program-level data template in late March each year. Submit your completed data by 30 June each year.
The program-level data collection reports on the previous calendar year. For example, the 2026 collection reports data from 2025.
