Teacher education providers in NSW
Initial teacher education (ITE) gives graduates the foundation needed to meet the learning needs of all NSW students.
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) is part of a national ITE program accreditation system. We work together with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
All ITE programs in NSW go through NESA's rigorous accreditation process. Our ITE team coordinates the process.
We assess a program's design, content, assessment and professional experience components against:
- national standards and procedures
- additional NSW-specific requirements.
Graduates of accredited programs demonstrate the full range of Graduate Teacher Standards. They automatically meet the requirements to achieve Provisional accreditation to teach in NSW schools.

Subject content knowledge
Subject content knowledge (SCK) relates to teachers' understanding of the material they need to teach. Learn how the SCK policy helps providers apply the accreditation requirements.
