I’m still studying a teaching degree in Australia
If you are still studying a teaching degree in Australia, you may be eligible for Conditional accreditation.
Changes to the NSW Teacher Accreditation Manual
This page is being updated to reflect the revised NSW Teacher Accreditation Manual, published on 21 October 2025.
Want to know what’s changed? Read the Official Notice.
Eligibility to apply for Conditional accreditation
You can apply for Conditional accreditation if you’ve completed enough of your teaching degree:
Undergraduate degree (e.g. Bachelor of Education)
75% completed
Graduate-entry/post-graduate degree (e.g. Master of Teaching)
50% completed.
A degree-only pathway is available if you have a formal written offer of employment (not casual) as a teacher in a NSW school and have been awarded at least a 3-year bachelor’s degree in the area you will be teaching. For example, you have a Bachelor of Science and an offer of employment to teach Science.
If the offer of employment is from a Department of Education (DoE) school, the Principal should email the DoE Teacher Approvals Team.
If you are planning to teach with the NSW Department of Education as a degree-only pathway applicant, please refer to their guidelines on applying for approval to teach in a NSW public school.
Did you complete any of your qualifications outside of Australia?

Calculate your credit points
Find your degree’s total credit points:
The total number of credit points required to graduate from your teaching degree can usually be found in your university Course Handbook or on your university’s website. It is not based on the length of time you have spent studying.
Add the credit points for subjects you have completed:
Include only credit points for subjects you have completed towards your teaching degree. Do not include credit points for subjects you are currently enrolled in.
Calculate your percentage:
Completed credit points ÷ Total degree credit points x 100
