Changes to the NSW Teacher Accreditation Manual
This page is being updated to reflect the revised NSW Teacher Accreditation Manual, published on 21 October 2025.

Your Statement of Accreditation
When your application for first time teacher accreditation in NSW is successful, we will issue you with a Statement of Accreditation (SoA). Your SoA is evidence of your first time accreditation.
You can use it to show potential or existing employers what level of teacher accreditation you have gained and the teaching qualifications you held at the time you were first accredited in NSW.
To view and download a PDF of your SoA, sign into your NESA eTAMS account, go to My Applications, then Statement of Accreditation.
Your SoA only shows the qualifications that NESA assessed when you applied for first time teacher accreditation. Your SoA does not include other qualifications, training or experience you may have.
If you complete further qualifications or move to a higher level of accreditation, such as Proficient Teacher, your SoA will not show this. The most current information on your accreditation is shown on your Teacher Summary Report which you can find in your NESA eTAMS account.
Subject coding advice on your Statement of Accreditation
Your Statement of Accreditation (SoA) may include subject coding advice on how your teaching qualifications align with NESA’s NSW Subject Content Knowledge (SCK) Policy. These codes reflect your teaching qualifications at the time you gain first time accreditation in NSW. Prior teaching experience or additional areas of study are not reflected in the subject coding advice on your SoA. Subject coding advice is not updated on your SoA from when you are first accredited.
NESA provides subject coding advice which may be used by employers. Subject coding advice is shown on your SoA and does not limit the subjects or stages you may be employed in to teach.
Conditions on your accreditation
At times, NESA may apply conditions to your accreditation.
We will notify you when you are first accredited if there are any qualification conditions on your accreditation. You will be able to view these conditions on your Teacher Summary Report.
To view any qualification conditions on your accreditation, follow the steps in the next section.
If you have gained first-time accreditation in NSW through Mutual Recognition and have conditions attached to your registration in another Australian state or territory, or in New Zealand, NESA may apply the same conditions to your NSW accreditation.
Principals, employers and Teacher Accreditation Delegates in early childhood, can also use their NESA eTAMS account to check for any active qualification conditions on a teacher's accreditation.
Your NESA eTAMS account and your Teacher Summary Report
Your NESA eTAMS account is the best source of information for the most up-to-date details of your accreditation journey as a teacher in NSW.
In your NESA eTAMS account you can find information on your current accreditation status, any active qualification conditions, and record any further study or professional learning as you move towards higher levels of teacher accreditation.
The best place to access your current accreditation status is your Teacher Summary Report. How to access it:
- Sign into your eTAMS account.
- Open ‘Teacher’ on your dashboard.
- Select ‘View Reports’.
- Select ‘Teacher Summary Report’.
- Download and save the PDF of your Teacher Summary Report.
Principals, employers and Teacher Accreditation Delegates in early childhood can also access your Teacher Summary Report through their NESA eTAMS account.
Conditionally accredited teachers
Before applying for Provisional or Proficient Teacher accreditation, Conditionally accredited teachers must complete their teaching degree.
For information on how teacher education providers and employers can support Conditionally accredited teachers, read the Principles for the employment of conditionally accredited teachers (PDF 158.66KB).
Employment as a Conditionally accredited early childhood teacher in a NSW centre-based early childhood service must also meet the requirements of the Children (Education and Care Services National Law Application) Act.
Moving from Conditional to Provisional accreditation
You can apply to move from Conditional to Provisional accreditation when you have graduated from your teaching degree and have received your degree certificate (testamur).
To move from Conditional to Provisional accreditation:
- Sign in to your eTAMs account.
- Go to the Provisional tile or visit the Conditional Teacher option in the menu, navigate to the My Applications option, and select the Provisional application.
- Share your:
- final transcript that confirms the date your qualification has been conferred or awarded
- degree certificate (testamur) that confirms the date your qualification has been awarded.
Share your qualifications directly with NESA via Parchment/My eQuals. This allows us to process your application more quickly.
Transcripts that state 'eligible for graduation' or 'qualified for' are not accepted.
Once you have shared the required evidence of your qualifications and we’ve assessed it to be sufficient, we will update your accreditation status in eTAMS to Provisional.
You will still have a maximum of 6 years from the date NESA awarded you Conditional accreditation to achieve Proficient teacher status, irrespective of when you move to Provisional accreditation.
Read the Fact Sheet on how to move from Conditional to Provisional Teacher Accreditation (PDF 138.07KB).
Working towards Proficient Teacher accreditation
All Conditionally and Provisionally accredited teachers must achieve Proficient Teacher accreditation within their timeframe. You can view your timeframe in your eTAMS account.
To help you get ready to apply for Proficient Teacher accreditation, complete the Proficient Teacher Orientation Course in NESA learning. This is a mandatory requirement in your application for Proficient Teacher accreditation and provides an overview of the steps to achieve this.

To work overseas you may need a Letter of Professional Standing
If you are a NSW teacher and would like to work overseas, you may need to provide a Letter of Professional Standing (LOPS) to the relevant teacher regulatory authority or prospective employer.
A LOPS is a letter addressed to a teacher regulatory authority that confirms:
- your NSW teacher accreditation status
- you are a qualified teacher and may list the subjects you are eligible to teach in NSW government schools (where relevant).
