After you’re granted Conditional or Provisional accreditation
Find out what you need to do once you are accredited and what your Statement of Accreditation includes. Learn how to move from Conditional to Provisional accreditation when you complete your degree.
New annual requirements if you are a Conditionally accredited teacher
This page contains important information for all teachers granted Conditional accreditation from 1 March 2026. View new requirements.
Your Statement of Accreditation
When you are granted first-time accreditation in NSW we will issue you with a Statement of Accreditation (SoA) which shows:
- the teaching qualifications we assessed to grant you first-time accreditation
- your level of accreditation gained: Conditional or Provisional.
You can use your SoA to share your accreditation level with potential or existing employers.
To view and download a PDF of your SoA, sign into your NESA online account (eTAMS), go to My Applications, then Statement of Accreditation.
Your SoA does not include other qualifications, training or experience you may have. It will not be updated if you complete further qualifications or move to a higher level of accreditation, such as Proficient Teacher. Your most current information is shown on your Teacher Summary Report which you can find in your NESA online account (eTAMS).
Subject and stage advice
NESA's subject and stage advice may be listed on your Teacher Summary Report and provides employers with information about what NSW syllabus subjects and stages your qualifications are aligned to teach.
If you studied a NSW accredited teaching degree, your subject and stage advice will be listed on your Teacher Summary Report when you are accredited at Provisional or Proficient Teacher.
NESA reviews your transcripts for subjects and stages when you are accredited at Provisional or Proficient Teacher only. We use the NSW Subject Content Knowledge (SCK) requirements policy to determine if there is alignment with a NSW syllabus.
The subject and stage advice does not limit the subjects or stages you can teach.
Employers may consider prior teaching experience or additional areas of study in assigning teaching duties.
NESA provides subject and stage advice at the point of first time accreditation only.
If you studied interstate or overseas
If you completed part or all of your qualifications interstate or overseas, NESA will provide subject and stage advice if there is alignment with the NSW Subject Content Knowledge (SCK) requirements policy. Prior teaching experience or further study completed after you are accredited does not form part of the assessment for subject or stage advice.
Find the most current information on your accreditation
Your NESA online account (eTAMS) is the best source of information on your current accreditation status, any active qualification conditions, and where you can record any further study or professional learning as you move towards higher levels of accreditation.
The best place to access your current accreditation status is your Teacher Summary Report. How to access it:
- Sign into your eTAMS account.
- Open ‘Teacher’ on your dashboard.
- Select ‘View Reports’.
- Select ‘Teacher Summary Report’.
- Download and save the PDF of your Teacher Summary Report.
Principals, employers and Teacher Accreditation Delegates in early childhood can also access your Teacher Summary Report through their NESA online account (eTAMS).
Conditions on your first-time accreditation
At times, NESA may apply conditions to your accreditation.
We will notify you when you are first accredited if there are any qualification conditions on your accreditation. You can view any conditions on your accreditation on your Teacher Summary Report.
If you have gained first-time accreditation in NSW through Mutual Recognition and have conditions attached to your registration in another Australian state or territory, or in New Zealand, NESA may apply the same conditions to your NSW accreditation.
Principals, employers and Teacher Accreditation Delegates in early childhood, can also use their NESA eTAMS account to check for any active qualification conditions on a teacher's accreditation.
Your accreditation while you complete your teaching degree
Conditionally accredited teachers must complete their teaching degree before applying for Provisional or Proficient Teacher accreditation.
Annual coursework progress
If you were Conditionally accredited on or after 1 March 2026, you must continue to progress to complete your teaching degree. Each year until you graduate, NESA will check that you’re progressing in your teaching degree by confirming you’ve been awarded credit points.
For information on how teacher education providers and employers can support Conditionally accredited teachers, read the Principles for the employment of conditionally accredited teachers (PDF 132.14KB).
If you were granted Conditional accreditation via the degree-only pathway
You have 24 months from the date you are accredited to pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) and be awarded credit points towards an accredited teaching degree. Following this, you must be awarded credit points each year until you have completed all credit points required to graduate.
How NESA will verify your coursework progress
NESA will work with initial teacher education (ITE) providers in NSW each year to check your credit point progress. If we are unable to verify your progress we will contact you within 12 months of your Conditional accreditation date. We will continue to check your progress each year until you graduate.
What happens if you don’t progress in your teaching degree?
If you do not provide a coursework progress update within the timeframe, your accreditation will be at risk of suspension. Teachers whose accreditation is suspended are not eligible to teach in NSW schools or services.
If you are taking a break from studying, you can apply for a temporary exemption from your teaching degree updates. An exemption may be granted if your ITE provider gives you approved leave from study. Complete this application form (PDF 138.26KB) to apply for a temporary exemption.
How to move from Conditional to Provisional accreditation
If you have graduated from your teaching degree and have received your degree certificate (testmaur), you can apply to move from Conditional to Provisional accreditation.
- Sign in to your NESA online account (eTAMs).
- Go to the Provisional tile or visit the Conditional Teacher option in the menu, navigate to the My Applications option, and select the Provisional application.
- Share your:
- final transcript that confirms the date your qualification has been conferred or awarded
- degree certificate (testamur) that confirms the date your qualification has been awarded.
Share your qualifications directly with NESA via Parchment/My eQuals. This allows us to process your application more quickly.
Transcripts that state "eligible for graduation" or "qualified for" are not accepted.
Once you have shared the required evidence of your qualifications and we’ve assessed it to be sufficient, we will update your accreditation status in eTAMS to Provisional.
You will still have a maximum of 6 years from the date NESA awarded you Conditional accreditation to achieve Proficient teacher status, irrespective of when you move to Provisional accreditation.

Working towards Proficient Teacher accreditation
All Conditionally and Provisionally accredited teachers must achieve Proficient Teacher accreditation within their timeframe. You can view your timeframe in your NESA online account (eTAMS).
To help you get ready to apply for Proficient Teacher accreditation, complete the Proficient Teacher Orientation Course in NESA learning. This is a mandatory requirement in your application for Proficient Teacher accreditation and provides an overview of the steps to achieve this.

To work overseas you may need a Letter of Professional Standing
If you are a NSW teacher and would like to work overseas, you may need to provide a Letter of Professional Standing (LOPS) to the relevant teacher regulatory authority or prospective employer. Conditionally accredited teachers must move to Provisional accreditation before requesting a LOPS.
A LOPS is a letter addressed to a teacher regulatory authority that confirms:
- your NSW teacher accreditation status
- you are a qualified teacher and may list the subjects you are eligible to teach in NSW government schools (where relevant).
