How to apply for Proficient Teacher accreditation in NSW

Your proficient Teacher application

A simple guide for teachers.

Before you begin your application, talk with your principal or Teacher Accreditation delegate and discuss your readiness to apply.

Be assigned an Accreditation Supervisor and complete the mandatory Proficient Teacher orientation course found on NESA learning.

Support from your Accreditation Supervisor - your accreditation supervisor is there to guide you.

They will help you:

  • understand what's expected at the Proficient Teacher level
  • using the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • support you in selecting sets of evidence that show your practise and impact at Proficient Teacher
  • assist you with completing your application.

What you need to submit

You'll complete and submit your application through eTAMS.

You'll need to include:

  • an observation report written by your Accreditation Supervisor.
  • 5 to 8 sets of evidence showing your teaching practice and the impact you've had on student learning across the 7 Standards.
  • an annotation for each evidence set that describes its context and how it shows your teaching practise and impact.

Collecting your evidence

Your evidence should be collected from your everyday teaching.

For example:

  • registered and evaluated lesson plans and teaching programmes.
  • student or child learning samples that include your feedback
  • professional learning that you've reflected upon and implemented in your practice.

Helpful tools and examples

We have resources to guide and support you throughout the process.

On our website, you'll find:

  • an observation report template
  • sample evidence sets with annotations to help you understand what to include
  • the Proficient Teacher Evidence Guide, which will assist you to select appropriate and relevant evidence to demonstrate the standards at Proficient Teacher.
