Approved for South Coast Women's Health and Wellbeing Aboriginal Corporation (Waminda)
This Program provides culturally appropriate therapeutic services to Aboriginal children, young people and women (and their families) who have experienced interpersonal violence and abuse, with a focus on sexual abuse. Services incorporate cultural healing frameworks and methodologies in individual, group and community settings. The Healing Counsellors provide high quality counselling and therapeutic services including, crisis support, advocacy, group work, and related case management to children, adolescents, women, and families who are impacted by sexual abuse, family violence, domestic violence, and interpersonal trauma. The counsellors incorporate a cultural, spiritual, and family context in all their work with women, children, and young people. The counsellors work with an emphasis on Art & Narrative Based therapies that incorporate Aboriginal healing principles and support traditional story telling offering community members a platform to tell their stories in a way that honours them. An important part of the role is to promote awareness and change using community development methodologies.
