Program objective
The Department of Communities and Justice has developed a grants program to assist Men’s Behaviour Change Programs (MBCPs) to improve service delivery and systems.
MBCPs are predominantly group-based programs and services that focus on working with men to enable them to recognise their violent behaviour and develop strategies to stop them from using violence.
MBCP grants are for
- Aboriginal-led development and piloting of MBCPs for Aboriginal men
- develop, co-design or tailor a MBCP to meet the needs of
- CALD communities
- LGBTQI+ communities
- tailor a MBCP to meet the needs of people living with cognitive impairment.
This program is administered by Department of Communities and Justice.
Eligibility
Who can apply
- MBCP providers registered under the NSW MBCP Practice Standards and Compliance Framework.
- Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO).
- Organisations committed to seeking registration of a MBCP under the NSW MBCP Practice Standards and Compliance Framework.
Who can’t apply
- Those organisations that do not meet the eligibility criteria.
Types of projects funded under this grant
Develop or pilot an MBCP for Aboriginal communities
Eligible organisations: Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO)
Period: 2022/23
Funding limit per application: up to $200,000 (excl GST)
Priorities:
Funding is to support the development and piloting of Aboriginal led MBCPs. Co-designed programs.
Co-designed tailoring of existing programs to suit local needs or needs of particular groups Supports to increase program readiness.
- Develop, co-design or tailor a MBCP to meet the needs of CALD communities; or LGBTQI+ communities
- Objective: Development and registration of MBCPs that meet the needs of CALD communities; LGBTQI+ communities.
- Funding limit per application: up to $100,000
- Eligible projects:
- Co-designed tailoring of a MBCP registered under the NSW Government MBCP Practice Standards and Compliance Framework that will meet the needs of CALD communities or LGBTQI+ communities.
- Co-design of a MBCP that will meet the needs of CALD communities or LGBTQI+ communities.
- Tailor a MBCP to meet the needs of people living with cognitive impairment
- Objective: Development and registration of MBCPs that meet the needs of people living with cognitive impairment
- Funding limit per application: up to $100,000.
- Eligible projects:
- Co-designed tailoring of a MBCP registered under the NSW Government MBCP Practice Standards and Compliance Framework that will meet the needs of people living with cognitive impairment
- Co-design of a MBCP that will meet the needs of people living with cognitive impairment
- Eligible organisations:

Address the assessment criteria
Applications will be assessed against the following criteria.
How the proposal:
- meets the objectives of the DCJ MBCP Grants program
- addresses the demonstrated needs of their organisation and the services it provides
- represents value for money in terms of:
- the overall costs
- the outcomes and benefits that will be delivered
- and includes a detailed budget and plan.
- is suitable for a one-off grant, or will be self-sustainable beyond the funding provided.
Note: NSW Government agencies will not award an agreement, contract or grant
funding to a Non-government Institution that does not join the National Redress Scheme.

After the application is submitted
Successful applications will be decided by: Executive Director, Women Family and Community Safety
The applications will be assessed and both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified.
Applications will be assessed through a two stage process:
- an initial review of eligibility as per the criteria outlined under ‘Who can Apply’
- a review of the applications against the assessment criteria, undertaken by an assessment panel.
Applicants will be emailed to confirm that their application has been received.
Successful grant applicants will be notified in writing via email.
Obligations for successful applicants
If an applicant is successful, they must meet the following requirements:
- Enter into a Grant Funding Agreement with DCJ that sets out the terms and conditions of the grant funding arrangement and includes a project plan and timeline outlining how the funding will be used and implemented.
- Progress reports and status updates of the project provided every three months.
- Once the project is completed an acquittal of the funds in line with the funding agreement, and a brief implementation report will be submitted to DCJ.
The project can only commence once a Grant Funding Agreement has been signed on
behalf of the grant recipient and the Department.
