About the Project
The ACU STEM Centre of Education Excellence is a transformational opportunity for community groups, residents and industries in Western-Sydney offering a new bespoke building with contemporary learning settings. Delivering STEM upskilling, including school programs, short courses and microcredentials, the Centre will help meet national STEM priorities and changing workforce demands.
Project Scope
The Project is a STEM Centre of Educational Excellence Building, 3 floors, 3000 sqm, fully fitted out including equipment and technology.
The STEM Centre will provide STEM upskilling opportunities to community groups and residents in Strathfield and Western Sydney to meet national STEM priorities and changing workforce needs by offering:
- Preschool programs–specific activities to engage young children in STEM activities
- Junior School students–Homework and Tutoring Clubs and a suite of STEM courses eg Robotics, Coding, Girls in STEM, Entrepreneurial Thinking, Building your own Business, etc
- Senior School students – ACU would work with Western Sydney schools to increase the suite of subject offerings, especially STEM subjects no longer offered due to teacher shortages. Subjects would be offered through the STEM Centre utilising a blended delivery mode.
- School Teachers–professional development for teachers, especially in maths, science, technology, and literacy to ensure participating schools are the best in the state and continue to attract a wide range of students. This would also ensure teachers are optimally trained to provide their students with the knowledge, skills and experiences required for a thriving Australian economy.
- General STEM skills and awareness for all ages–short courses and microcredentials to provide basics skills, enabling people to develop expertise in STEM and supporting career transitions.
- Industry training centre, Metaverse and MakerSpace-enabling ACU to teach practical job-ready skills through augmented and virtual reality by working with industry partners to close the skills gap and ensure jobs in Western Sydney attract a skilled and committed workforce
- Other skills and training would be identified and offered, eg training and staffing shortages at Western Sydney Airport
- General community: ACU would provide opportunities for the groups identified above looking to engage in learning due to personal interest or general upskilling as short course offerings
