Our intention
The intention for the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment (Redevelopment) arts and culture strategy is to ensure arts and culture contributes to the cultural identity of the hospital and imbues it with a unique sense of place.
Our strategy proposes a broad mix of and integrated permanent contemporary artworks and dedicated cultural spaces for stage 1 and 2 of the Redevelopment.
We intend to provide a diverse range of arts and culture experiences, designed to soothe, relax and delight our hospital staff, patients and their families, and visitors.
Our strategy will focus on delivering art projects specifically designed to contribute to cultural, social and environmental sustainability.
This will include local artist professional development, capacity building and mentorships, and staff creative educational opportunities.

Culturally inclusive wayfinding
The Dharug Signage Project oversees the inclusion of Aboriginal wayfinding signage into the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment.
The wayfinding signs' aim is to be more culturally inclusive and welcoming to Aboriginal patients and families. It also helps non-Dharug people learn more about the language.

Our consumer committee
The Nepean Hospital Redevelopment consumer committee (the Committee) was established in 2017 to enable meaningful community input into the major expansion and upgrade of Nepean Hospital and community-based health services.

The Committee consists of 9 consumers and local volunteers from the Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury areas. They provide input through the different redevelopment phases to make sure the new facilities meet the communities' needs.
The Committee is represented by a diverse group with multiple ages, multicultural and First Nation backgrounds, aged care and disability needs, carers, and parents with young children.
"As one of these members, I am honoured to have been invited to contribute to the planning of the different sections of Stage 1 of the Nepean Redevelopment. We all belong to larger groups and organisations (such as Rotary or Mothers' groups), who live and work in the area of Nepean Hospital services."
Diana Aspinall, Committee Consumer Representative
All members use their networks to share information about the redevelopment and represent the broader community needs.
The Committee will continue to operate and make sure consumer perspectives are always considered and included in the redevelopment's planning, design and construction phases.
