Our commitment

Ngurang Dali Mana Burudi — a place to get better. This is our view for the whole community.
The Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital serves all 29 clans of the great Eora nation, including the local Gadigal, Wangal and Bedigal clans within Sydney Local Health District (LHD).
Health Infrastructure and Sydney LHD are committed to deliver a redevelopment that matches the high standards of care delivered by Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital today.
We are working in partnership with our health services, Aboriginal communities, families, individuals and organisations to create a healthier future for all.
Working with Country
The Integrated Project Team recognise Aboriginal people, their strong connection to Country and their enduring culture and experience.
The team is deeply committed to reflecting Aboriginal culture and heritage in all phases of planning, design and delivery of the RPA Hospital redevelopment (Redevelopment).
We will continue to actively engagement with local Aboriginal groups and stakeholders throughout the design and delivery of the Redevelopment. This includes:
- connecting and designing with Country through engagement and co-design with Aboriginal stakeholders and communities
- assessment and management of local Aboriginal cultural heritage values through collaboration and engagement with Aboriginal stakeholders and communities
- development and delivery of the Aboriginal Health Impact Statement to ensure the redevelopment assists with ‘Closing the Gap’ in health and equity between Aboriginal people and the community.

Community engagement
Community input into the planning, design and delivery of the $940 million Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Redevelopment (the Redevelopment) is essential to create a welcoming facility that meets the healthcare needs of the community well into the future.

Working in partnership with our community is central to the Redevelopment's communication and engagement activities.
Since March 2020, the Redevelopment has actively engaged and continues to seek consultation with our staff, consumers, community and local stakeholder groups. These include:
- Royal Prince Alfred Hospital staff and clinicians
- Patients, carers and consumer groups
- Local Aboriginal communities
- Multicultural and diverse communities
- Major research institutions and education providers
- Precinct partners
- Government agencies
- Associations, business chambers and interest groups
- Local residents and businesses
- General public.
Project User Groups (PUGs) are a key consultation forum between the Redevelopment's Integrated Project Team and clinical stakeholders, and form part of the governance for the Redevelopment.
The membership of each PUG is selected to ensure a broad representation of stakeholders from within the service and are made up of Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital staff, clinicians, consumers, community and Aboriginal representatives.
RPA PUGs aim to achieve the following:
- Generate clinical and operational planning input for the design process
- Provide feedback on health delivery matters
- Represent the interests of the departments to be potentially included in the Redevelopment
- Identify representatives who can be a source information to, from and for the broader workforce
- Work collaboratively with the Integrated Project Team.
PUGs for the Redevelopment are currently underway to ensure the RPA Hospital is purpose-built to meet the healthcare needs of patients, staff and the broader community.
All clinicians and operational staff are welcome to participate in the planning of the Redevelopment and are encouraged to contact their PUG representative to provide input.

The Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital Consumer and Community Advisory Network (CCAN) is an established and independent network of consumer representatives that is resourced and supported by Sydney Local Health District (Sydney LHD) and RPA Hospital.
The CCAN aims to represent and reflect the diversity of the local and broader community that the RPA Hospital serves and includes representatives who use, have used or have an interest in the services the hospital provides.
The CCAN meets monthly and reports to the Sydney LHD's Consumer and Community Advisory Council.
