Building our future health system
Built infrastructure plays a vital role in delivering health services. The 20-year Health Infrastructure Strategy (the Strategy) guides our future planning and how we will invest in infrastructure for our health districts, networks and services.
NSW Health's vision is a sustainable health system that delivers outcomes that:
- matter to patients and the community
- is personalised
- invests in wellness and is digitally enabled.
The Strategy was developed in consultation with NSW Health organisations and NSW Government central agencies. It helps us to advance our network of health facilities and services and realise our vision in an environment of continuing change.

Health Infrastructure is responsible for the delivery of several larger infrastructure programs, which deliver a collection of different individual projects across multiple locations.
Examples of state-wide programs include the NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program (AIP), and the Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program (SWMHIP).
The AIP is made up of 30 individual Ambulance stations projects. Each project delivers a new station in a specific location but is funded by the program budget.
The SWMHIP includes the refurbishment of health facilities, the construction of new hospital units within existing hospitals, and the development of units specialised for younger people or older adults. Each of these is considered its own project under the overall program.
