No waste levy for bushfire cleanup
Waste facilities will be able to waive the government's waste levy on bushfire-generated waste such as building materials and furniture until 31 March 2017.
Council areas exempt from the levy are:
- Port Macquarie-Hastings council
- Kempsey Shire council
- Mid-coast council
- Upper Hunter Shire council
The other council areas in the Natural Disaster Declaration area are not subject to the NSW waste levy.
Environment minister Gabrielle Upton said she hoped this would ease some of the pressure people were feeling after the bushfires.
"Waiving our waste fee will help people to dispose of their bushfire-damaged goods quickly and responsibly," Ms Upton said.
Council waste facility gate fees may still apply. Residents should check with their council on specific requirements to dispose of bushfire-damaged waste.
