Pipeline to be built in Broken Hill
The Broken Hill pipeline project will inject approximately $50 million into the Wentworth and Broken Hill economies and generate more than 150 local jobs. It will also support steel jobs in the Illawarra.
John Holland MPC Group Joint Venture will design and construct the $467 million pipeline, which will be built substantially from steel rolled in Australia.
Minister for Regional Water Niall Blair said the people of Broken Hill had the same right as anyone else in NSW to have a safe and reliable supply of water.
“The government has carefully considered every possible option for securing a long-term water supply for Broken Hill,” Mr Blair said.
The project will be managed by WaterNSW. Detailed planning and design works will start immediately, with construction starting in 2018.
