Design and Building Practitioner
Find your occupation to see if it is included in the Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR) scheme. If it is included, you will find information to help you notify the relevant regulator and begin work in NSW.
Occupations which are exempt or not included in the AMR scheme may be included at a future date.
NSW has a declaration scheme for building practitioners who perform certain tasks under the Design and Building Practitioner (DBP) legislation (class 2 buildings).
Your licence may be recognised under Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR); however, to make a building compliance declaration and/or lodge documents on the NSW Planning Portal related to buildings under the DBP legislation you will need to apply separately to be registered under the Design and Building Practitioners scheme.
AMR is not available for the DBP scheme as there is no equivalent scheme in other jurisdictions.
Note: The Design and Building Practitioners scheme will be expanded to include class 3 and 9c buildings in mid-2023.
NSW has a declaration scheme for design practitioners who perform certain tasks under the Design and Building Practitioner (DBP) legislation (class 2 buildings). Only professional engineers who have a current registration in Victoria and have registered under Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR) are eligible to apply to become a design practitioner in NSW.
Your licence may be recognised under Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR); however, to prepare regulated designs and/or to make design compliance declarations related to buildings under the DBP legislation you will need to apply separately to be registered under the Design and Building Practitioners scheme.

Applicants who apply to become a Design Practitioner must adhere to the eligibility criteria under the DBP Scheme.
