Beardies Waters Dam and Woodlands is a great location for a walk along perfect for families visiting Glen Innes Highlands. There are no toilets, picnic tables, shelters and barbecue facilities
Beardies Waters Dam is one of the best bird-watching areas in the district. The site supports a great diversity of waterfowl. To view the entire dam visit the Shannonvale Road bridge and the Beardy Woodlands Reserve. Platypus has also been seen in the river.
Shannon Vale Bridge - head east on the Gwydir Highway towards Grafton then at the top of the hill turn right into the Shannon Vale Road. The bridge is 2km further on.
Beardy Bridge/Beardy Waters Woodlands. 5km east of Glen Innes (you are not permitted to fish in the Beardy Dam). From the Glen Innes Visitor Centre/ northern roundabout - Travel 5km east on the Gwydir Hwy towards Grafton, turn right into the Beardy Waters Woodlands 190m east of Beardy Bridge. Fishing on both sides of Beardy Bridge – You can catch fish species Redfin, Rainbow Trout and Yellowbelly. There are picnic tables with no toilet facilities. Good for kayaking north of the bridge.
