Beer Can House – A Quirky Landmark in Lightning Ridge Nestled in the heart of Lightning Ridge, the Beer Can House stands as a testament to outback ingenuity and creativity. Constructed between December 1977 and February 1978 by miner Gary Holms, his wife Pat, and their four children, this unique dwelling was built using steel beer cans—the last year they were produced—after finding that large rocks were too heavy for the children to handle. The house features inventive elements like windows made from fruit boxes and round windows crafted from the bottom of a "puddler" reflecting the resourcefulness of its creators. Located at the end of the Green Car Door Tour, the Beer Can House is open for both guided and self-guided tours. Visitors are encouraged to make donations to support the ongoing restoration of this distinctive piece of Lightning Ridge's heritage. Don't forget to sign the Visitors Book in the fridge!
