The Big Koala, standing 2.5 metres high, is the 84th sculpture created for the award-winning Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail which is centred on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail won Gold for 'Tourist Attractions' in the 2022 NSW Tourism Awards and is a Finalist in the 2022 Australian Tourism Awards.
The Big Koala is a wonderful public artwork to photograph and share with family and friends and it is free for everyone to enjoy.
Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail encompasses 83 one metre high fibreglass koala sculptures, hand painted by local artists with designs that promote koala and Australian wildlife conservation and the environment, arts and culture and heritage .
'The Big Koala, Spirit of All Koalas' depicts 31 koalas, ranging in height from 30 cm to 55 cm, living happily in their forest home. It was created in fibreglass by local industrial artist John Belfield from John's River and artist Pauline Roods from Port Macquarie.
This iconic public artwork is the landmark for Guulabaa, Place of Koala in the Cowarra State Forest, just 5 minutes from the Pacific Highway.
The Big Koala welcomes people to Guulabaa from the car park and is located alongside WildNets, an innovative nature-based forest experience for everyone to enjoy.
