About the program
The COMPACT Program aims to safeguard Australia's peaceful way of life by adopting an approach to countering:
- hate
- violence
- fear
- division
in society.
This is done by building resilience in the community. The program funds grants to locally-based projects focused on engaging with young people. Organisations funded to deliver the projects form part of the COMPACT Alliance. The Alliance is a sustainable network of community resilience-building initiatives.
Key takeaways
An independent evaluation of the program found that:
- COMPACT reached over 20,000 young people in its first 2 years. This involved over 130 schools as well as youth and community centres.
- Two-thirds of surveyed participants indicated that they have developed a greater level of acceptance and respect for others.
- COMPACT also contributes to improved engagement in learning and greater community participation.
