What we're doing
Building Commission NSW has issued Notices of Intention to Cancel a licence to a number of building and trade related authority holders.
Licences and authorities may be cancelled for various reasons, including if the Secretary determines there has been improper conduct, insolvency, or if the licence or authority was issued based on a misrepresentation or error, such as invalid qualifications.
What happens next?
Taskforce Artemis is cancelling licences on a case-by-case basis and is accessing the available evidence against each licence holder before acting. As this process continues, it is anticipated more licences will be cancelled.
An affected licence or authority holder is given a reasonable opportunity to respond before the Secretary cancels their licence or authority. The reason for the proposed cancellation is set out in a notice that is issued to the holder and invites them to provide evidence or reasons why it should not be cancelled.
What should I do if I'm impacted?

Licensees and authority holders
If you have been issued with a Notice of Intention to Cancel, refer to the information contained in the letter for your next steps, including the contact details for further information and enquiries.
If Building Commission NSW determines a licence or authority should be cancelled, the former contractor or tradesperson will not be allowed to perform work that is authorised by that licence.

Cancellation can create stress for licence or authority holders, their contractors, and their customers. Building Commission NSW will seek to provide clarity on the process, and guidance for all parties on their rights and responsibilities.
