Local community helps shape Ryde Hospital Redevelopment
Ryde Hospital Redevelopment engages community through CRG, with new facilities planned to meet future needs of the diverse, ageing local population.
Established in the early stages of planning, the CRG has been an integral component of engagement with consumers and the community. The CRG is made up of a cross-section of local community members. The members help inform the project at different stages of the redevelopment process, ensuring it meets the needs of the broader community.
The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment team caught up with long-time Ryde Community and CRG member, Warren Smith, to discuss his involvement in the project, how he has found the process and what he is most looking forward to with the new hospital.
Mr Warren Smith discussed how the redevelopment has looked at the different services that will be needed by the community in the future, which he describes as an ageing and multicultural community. He also described how the new hospital will capture the views of the blue gum high forest and Parramatta River.
The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment is in the detailed design phase with early construction underway and main works set to start at the end of 2023, pending planning approval. The redevelopment will support the delivery of services including:
- a new and expanded emergency department
- a new and expanded medical imaging department
- a new and expanded intensive care unit
- new operating theatres
- adult overnight inpatient beds
- a new purpose-built ambulatory care centre
- a new paediatric short stay unit
- improved landscaping, urban spaces and car parks.
