The pride and passion Tracey has for her midwifery work has seen her nominated as a finalist in the category of Aboriginal nurse/midwife of the year at the upcoming NSW Health Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards 2022.
Overwhelmed and very humbled to be selected as one of just four finalists across the state, Tracey says delivering woman-centred, compassionate care brings her the greatest joy.
“I love the connection I make with women and that I’m with them through their whole journey, from pregnancy to birth and after,” says Tracey.
“Being an Aboriginal caseload midwife is amazing. For me, it’s about understanding the woman’s needs to give them the care they need. The family are often involved throughout the woman’s journey and I love being part of that.”
Tracey first began her career as an enrolled nurse at Nepean Hospital’s Women and Children’s division six years ago and became a registered midwife after graduating last year.
“Every woman you meet and birth you’re a part of makes the hard work worth it,” Tracey says.
The awards recognise nurses and midwives across eight categories with a total of thirty finalists. Winners will be announced on a livestream across the state from 2pm to 3pm on 18 November 2022.
